Today I was fortunate enough to be referred to Bob Schwab of Schwab Stump Grinding, LLC located out of Waunakee. Bob used a high-powered, $22K Carlton to grind out unsightly stumps left over after three large trees were removed from my yard in beautiful Sunset Village last week, as well as three fruit trees that had died over the past several years (further evidence that I am no green thumb).
Mr. Schwab, who worked as a foreman for TDS for 37 years prior to starting his own business, is a stump grinder extraordinaire. He maneuvers his equipment with such prowess that it is quite a sight to watch. At one point he had to drive his Carlton through a fence and position it into a small, narrow corner where he was constrained not only by the house but by a retaining wall and a fence. Utilizing five different levers with the dexterity of a classical pianist, Mr. Schwab was able to quickly remove the bulk of a large stump that I thought there was no chance of even reaching. All in all he removed six stumps from my front and back yards for a very reasonable price.
